Dear Rajinder,
Thanksgiving is around the corner. Surely we want
our little ones to have a taste of the festivities.
Unfortunately, most of the traditional
thanksgiving dishes are loaded with salt or sugar.
We are dedicating this month’s newsletter
to salt and effect on our babies along
with some recipes that are salt/sugar less yet
flavorful that
the whole family can enjoy.
Happy Thanksgiving

| SALT INTAKE AND THE HEALTH OF YOUR CHILDREN |
 |
|
For the newborn and very young, too much salt can be
dangerous to their health. Young babies should not
have salt added to any of their meals as it can be
harmful to their immature kidneys. Salt is naturally
present in many foods and babies over six months who
are weaned, along with young children, will get all
they need from this source.
If you are breastfeeding your baby or
feeding him with infant formula milk - the formula
has been specially formulated so that it contains
very little salt, but it is important not to make
formula milk more concentrated than instructed.

| WHIPPED SWEET POTATOES WITH CARAMELIZED APPLES |

really yummy.

1-inch pieces

baking sheet lined with parchment. Bake until
tender, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes.
Remove from oven; let stand until cool enough to
handle.
- Cut each potato lengthwise. Scoop flesh into the
bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle
attachment; discard skins. Add 2 tablespoons butter
and the cream; mix on medium speed until smooth. Mix
in applesauce and ginger; season with pepper
(optional)

| HOME MADE CRANBERRY SAUCE |
 |
|
Most commercially made cranberry sauces are loaded
in sugar to balance the acidity and tartness.
This is an easy recipe that it is baby friendly
yet the whole family can enjoy. By using dried
cranberries, we can avoid using any sugar
- ˝ cup of dried apricot
- ˝ cup of dried cranberries
- 1 cup of water
- ˝ cup of home-made apple or pear sauce.
- Soak dried fruits with water over night..
- Blend the mixture and set aside.
- On a sauce pan, heat mixture and home-made apple
sauce together.
- You may add apple cider to “sweeten” the
cranberries sauce to desire taste.
- For extra flavor, you may add orange zest to the
recipe.
